Cook Time:

Difficulty:
 Easy

Servings:

Ingredients

  • 5 whole To 6 Whole Fresh Peaches (best When Not Overly Ripe Or Soft)
  • 1 cup Flour
  • 1/2 cup Sugar
  • 1/2 cup Light Brown Sugar, Firmly Packed
  • 1/2 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon Ground Nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 stick Butter (1/2 Cup)
  • 1/2 whole Lemon
  • 7 Tablespoons Real Maple Syrup, Divided
  • 1-1/2 cup Whipping Cream
  • 3 Tablespoons Light Corn Syrup

Preparation Instructions

In a medium bowl, mix flour, sugar, light brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt using a fork or pastry cutter. Cut butter into small pieces and gradually add to flour mixture until evenly mixed.
Peel peaches into a bowl. Add the zest from half a lemon. Squeeze juice from lemon half and stir in with peaches and zest. Add 2 tablespoons real maple syrup to peaches, stir well.
Pour peach mixture into a small pan (8” or 9” square) and cover evenly with crumb topping. Cover with foil and bake at 350ºF for 15 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 20 to 30 minutes or until crisp and brown on top.
Maple Cream Sauce:
Pour whipping cream into a saucepan. Add 5 tablespoons real maple syrup, 3 tablespoons corn syrup and stir over moderate heat until thickened and reduced by about one-third, approximately 15 minutes. Refrigerate mixture until it is cold and thick, or set the saucepan into a small bowl of ice (the ice will melt and turn into ice water). Stirring your mixture, it will cool and thicken in about 15 minutes. Drizzle sauce over peach crisp. Serve warm.

Amy: Brown Sugar Biscuit Twists

As this week's theme is recipes, here is one of my family's favorites.
I originally got the recipe from moneysavingmom.com.
We have made these often and really enjoy them!

(We do like to add some cinnamon to the filling).

Brown Sugar Biscuit Twists

Biscuit dough:
  • 3 cups flour
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 Tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 3/4 cup butter or 1/2 cup butter and 1/4 cup shortening
  • 1 cup milk
Filling:
  • 2 Tablespoons melted butter
  • 3 Tablespoons brown sugar
Stir together dry ingredients of the biscuit dough. Cut in butter with a pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Make a well in the center of the flour mixture and add milk. Stir just until moistened.
Turn dough onto a lightly-floured surface and knead for 4 to 6 strokes. Roll dough out into a rectangle (approximately 1/4-inch thick).
Add the filling by brushing the dough with 2 Tablespoons melted butter. Sprinkle with 3 Tablespoons brown sugar.
Fold rectangle in half and cut into about 1-inch strips.
Twist strips and place on a baking sheet. Bake at 450 degrees for 10-12 minutes.
While baking, mix together 1 cup powdered sugar, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla, and a few teaspoons milk (enough to make the mixture of drizzling consistency). Drizzle over biscuit twists as soon as they come out of the oven.
You can freeze these fully cooked, or uncooked, or just make up the biscuit dough and freeze it to make these very simple to whip up when you’re ready to serve them!

I was looking through my photos and found this one!  Here is the story......

We were having a family picnic and there was a contest for who could catch a  water balloon that my Dad would throw as far into the sky as possible!  So we lined up and a few minutes later I ended up being soaked, literally SOAKED!!!  Hey, it was really fun and everyone got a good laugh out of it!

Give all the Glory to the Lord!

"So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God."                                       1 Corinthians 10:31

"And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him."                                                                            Colossians 3:17

"Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name,  so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,  and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."                                Philippians 2:9-11

Amy......seek first the kingdom of God!

Matthew 6:27-33

And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?
And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin,
yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?
Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’
For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all.
But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

These are from our front yard...it is beginning to look more like spring around here!
